  • 220 miles on the Pony Express Trail from the Golden Gate Bridge to the California/Nevada border at South Lake Tahoe.

The Pony Express is one of the most endearing and enduring memories of the 19th century Old West. The Pony Express Trail covered over 1,900 miles from St. Louis, Missouri to San Francisco, CA. Mail was delivered in under 10 days. The Pony Express mail delivery system only lasted 19 months. Two days after the first transmission was made on the Transcontinental Telegraph Line, October 24, 1861, the Pony Express was shuttered permanently. Luckily, you don’t have to run the 1,900+ mile Pony Express Trail in under 10 days! The California segment of the PET is just 220 miles, due East from the Pacific Ocean shoreline in San Francisco to the NV/CA shoreline of South Lake Tahoe. Enjoy a rest halfway through at California's state capitol, Sacramento. And don’t pick up any wooden nickels along the way!

  • 492 miles from the Olympic Village in Lake Tahoe to the Olympic Coliseum in Los Angeles.

With the SILVER challenge, you can be an 'Olympian' right here in California! Simply run or walk the 492 miles from the Olympic Village in Squaw Valley Lake Tahoe - which is also the start line of the Western States 100 (the world's first 100-mile trail race) - south on State Highway 395 to the Olympic Coliseum in Los Angeles. The California Golden State is also the only state that has hosted both Winter Olympics and Summer Olympics. At about the half-way point of your Virtual adventure, you'll pass through the mountain town of Lone Pine, where you'll see the highest point in the contiguous United States, Mt. Whitney, on your right and the lowest point in the Northern Hemisphere, Badwater Basin, on your left. Badwater Basin (Furnace Creek) also boasts the world's highest recorded temperature - 134.1 degrees Fahrenheit, as well as the start line of the world's toughest foot race, Badwater 135!

  • 652 miles from the California/Mexico border up the California golden coast to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Welcome to the ultimate coastal adventure in California! Get ready to walk or run 652 miles along the stunning Golden Coastline, from the border of California and Mexico up to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Not only will you experience the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, but you'll also get a glimpse of California's rich history. You'll pass all 21 of the California Missions, which were built by Spaniard priests and local Native American labor before California became a state in 1848. Did you know that the missions were built to be approximately 26 miles apart, which is coincidentally the distance of a marathon? You'll also run through several beach cities that host popular marathons, including San Diego Rock-n-Roll, Carlsbad, Orange County, and many more. At mile 10 on the Big Sur Marathon course, listen for the echoes of Korean drummers reverberating through the canyon walls. You'll also get to cross over the famous Bixby Bridge, one of the most picturesque marathon bridges in the world. And if you listen closely, you might hear a tuxedo-clad pianist playing classical music on a baby grand piano!
